The Kentucky Alliance for School Choice is a coalition of parents, advocacy groups, neighborhood clusters, teachers, school board members, concerned grandparents, civic organizations and businesses dedicated to the belief that parents, not their place of residence, should determine where children attend public and nonpublic schools. And when parents choose a new school, state funding should follow the child to the school of the parent’s choosing.

This website seeks to provide Kentuckians with information on the various types of school reforms and school choice, public and private, and why competition is the necessary ingredient to improve the quality of our children’s education in Kentucky.

School choice begins with the needs of parents in every community. We have found that many Kentucky parents are unaware that they can potentially transfer their children from their present public school to a better one outside of their present district.

Our goal is to empower parents to make the changes they feel are right for their children by familiarizing them with the availability of pre-existing student transfer agreements with adjoining school districts. To properly evaluate those options, we will soon make available on this website the academic performance of every child’s school compared to the schools with which their current district maintains a transfer agreement. Parents can then make an informed decision about which district and school best fits the needs of their children.

We also want to serve Kentucky parents by educating them on the school-choice options that are working in other states. Kentucky is one of only six states with no legislated alternatives to our public schools. We are convinced that the many options progressing in other states and cities will provide public education alternatives capable of fulfilling the needs of Kentucky parents and correspondingly strengthen our existing public school system.

The source of funding and support for the Kentucky Alliance for School Choice presently comes from private donors to the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions, an independent research and educational institution offering free-market solutions to Kentucky’s most pressing problems.
